Weekly Boarding

The Ridge School Boarding House aims to maintain its warm, friendly, family atmosphere where our boys can continually grow and thrive.

Yesterday

Boarding at The Ridge is not a new phenomenon and has been an integral part of the school's rich history. In 1989 a neighbouring house was bought and reconstructed into our present boarding house. The rooms became dormitories, but the homely feel was not lost.

Today

The boarding house family consists of four Housemasters, a matron, four students, three laundry ladies and upto 24 weekly boarders. There is also a system of short-term boarding for boys whose parents may have to travel during term. There are many benefits and extra opportunities for our boarders.

Firstly, it provides outstanding facilities, including networked computers and a prep room stocked with reading and reference material. It also has private lockers, a basketball hoop, a music room, a games room with television and DVD, a public telephone, a private garden and the use of all Ridge sporting facilities.

Secondly, being a boarder offers the opportunity for a controlled learning environment supervised by senior Ridge masters. These benefits are quite clearly illustrated by the fact that, of the yearly academic scholarships won by The Ridge, boarders have usually won several of these. At the same time a whole host of the school's most talented sportsmen come from amongst the boarders.

Lastly, the boarding house not only prepares our boys for college boarding, but also provides social interaction with the boys' peers. The development of social skills and maturity is carefully nurtured. This encourages independence, confidence and emotional growth, all within a structured daily routine.

Tomorrow

The boarding house gardens are being reconstructed to give the boys a larger lawned playing area. The computers are continually being upgraded. The courtyard entrance is to be given a new, friendlier facade. The shower facilities are being modernised. A careful eye is being kept on international trends in boarding so that our establishment maintains its standards and offers the best all round learning environment possible.
