Grade 4 is the start of the senior section of the school. Our Grade 4’s are taught and assessed using the outcomes based approach and the needs of each individual child are carefully considered. Each class up to Grade 6 has its own class teacher, and in their Grade 7 year the boys are taught by specialist subject teachers. The Ridge is so privileged in being able to split the Mathematics classes from Grade 4 to Grade 7, and some other subjects, thus allowing for more child-centred teaching.

Problem solving and creative thinking are encouraged in all areas of learning. Our Grade 6’s enjoy a very happy second term learning The Game of Life where life skills are taught and real life situations experienced. This follows through into the Grade 7 year when the boys are introduced to the business project where they develop entrepreneurial skills.

Central to all teaching in the senior part of the school are the computers and the computer laboratories. The boys have easy access to The Microsoft Office software as well as to e-mail and the Internet which they are encouraged to use for research. Computers are also to be found in every classroom. Technology is an integral part of every school day.
