Empowering Your Sons To Have COURidge
The Leaders Of Tomorrow Are Those Who Care
“COURidge”
It Takes A Village to Teach COURidge
Leading By Example
Actions say more than words. It’s for this reason that we take a bottom-up approach to teaching COURidge, where each member of The Ridge School community plays an important role in creating an inclusive learning atmosphere that promotes equity for all.
Our Students
Our Teachers
We aim to open dialogues with our students where we discuss topics linked to acknowledgment, inclusivity, respect, and consideration for the uniqueness of each of their peers. We encourage our boys to lead these discussions by creating a safe space for them to share their own insights and uplift the voices of their peers.
We provide continuous professional development opportunities for our teachers where we aim not only to upskill them in teaching methodology and information, but also in themes of social justice and inclusion in our curriculum. The learning opportunities include discussions on equity, transparency, creating safe spaces, awareness, diversity, inclusion, and more.
Our Parents
Respect and discipline begin at home. We aim to include our parents in interactive sessions where we discuss how we can support each other to ensure we are all on the same page both at home and at school. We hope to draw on the experiences of our parents to make this a meaningful, fair, helpful, and informed programme.
Our Key Priorities
So What Does “COURidge” Look Like?
Our priority is fostering a school environment where every stakeholder (our boys, our teachers and our parents) are given equal opportunities to play a guiding role in our curriculum to ensure that:
- Everyone feels heard, seen and included.
- The vision of each stakeholder is trusted.
- Fairness is considered for each decision made.
- All members of our community are equally treated with grace and respect.
- Equal chances are given to our staff, parents and our students.
Togetherness is at the heart of our discussions, bridging the gap between all sections of the school. - We are all united in our drive towards our common goals.
This includes addressing exclusionary attitudes and harmful masculinity through our initiatives so that we can foster positive energy within the school community that uplifts our boys’ self-esteem and enhances their academic confidence.
Measuring Our Success
How Will We Determine If We Are On The Right Track?
Action is just as important as vision. In order to determine whether our initiatives are on track, we will reflect on the following:
- The morale of our boys and our staff.
- We are outcome oriented.
- Social justice is becoming part of our community and not only a reactionary measure.
- All cultures are given equal opportunities and space to exist within our community.
- We are holding robust dialogues at different levels on a regular basis.
- There is less conflict within all areas of the school.
- All members of our community feel safe.
We will determine this through surveys and external feedback, by following up with our community, and checking in with our boys.
A Place Where Everyone Feels Belonging
Celebrating Our Differences
The Ridge School celebrates the differences of each of our unique students and prides ourselves in our environment, where everyone feels welcome and like they belong. There is awareness and upliftment of our community no matter their race, their beliefs, their backgrounds, their orientation, and their dreams.
We are raising our future leaders in South Africa and look forward to the great impact they will make on society as culturally aware and sensitive individuals who understand that a fair world is one where everyone feels heard, represented, and respected.
