Experiential Learning Is Part Of Growing
From Grades 4-7, our boys can explore the world through a wide variety of learning strategies geared to cater for all as individuals, be they more visual, auditory or kinaesthetic learners. We encourage hands-on, discovery learning and working together with peers. Experiential learning and the use of technology form a big part of how Ridge boys are geared for a bright future. This is made possible through our school resources such as internet-enabled computer labs, MacBook stations, iPad and iPod Touch banks, Promethean interactive whiteboards and in-class voting devices to facilitate an enriching blend of the new with all the positive aspects of a traditional learning environment.
Our Seniors Are Young, Budding Thinkers
We understand your concerns as a parent of a young boy, since they are surrounded by external influences. This is why The Ridge School grows our senior boys to be critical thinkers. Our teachers always encourage problem solving and creative thinking in all areas of learning. Our Grade 5s enjoy a very happy second term learning The Game of Life where life skills are taught through real-life situations. Our Grade 7 boys are taught entrepreneurial and leadership skills as part of the Headmaster’s leadership programme.
Education That Never Stagnates
The curriculum at The Ridge is frequently refreshed with new and topical material. We support and nurture cooperative learning and social connections to help our students develop a sense of personal resilience and people skills as part of the learning process.
Ridge boys are exposed to different religions, perspectives and cultures so they grow into young men who are accepting and non-judgemental. Since we value education that extends beyond textbooks, our boys also enjoy dance, drama, art, lateral thinking, public speaking and study skills in addition to standard academic subjects.
A “Modules” hour was introduced into the academic timetable a few years ago to give Grades 5-7 an hour slot per week to work in blocks of learning units. Many of the private music lessons and additional language classes take place during these module periods. These modules consist of Thinking Programmes, interactive games and cultural projects like dance and debating.
