It provides one of the most intense intellectual challenges you could ever imagine, and as a result, produces confident mind-bending champions. The Ridge School is proud to have a thriving senior chess club, where everyone is welcome, whether you’re a sportsman, musician, artist or an academic.
Boys Just Want To Play Chess
Our school library is often filled with eager boys who want to play a game of chess and who want to learn how to further their tactics. Some boys are competitive, and some just want to play friendly games. No matter your preference, we encourage all our senior boys to participate because there are innumerable benefits of chess.
Some refer to chess as ‘the battle of the minds’. At our chess club, boys are certainly encouraged to think and engage with their games with the help of experienced coaches. Chess not only develops boys’ thinking and planning, but it is also developing important skills such as fair play and good sportsmanship, skills we hold very dear at The Ridge.
Our senior chess club is alive with a rich mix of personalities, from athletic boys to creative and academically focused boys. They all enjoy a challenging game of chess to stretch their mental ability or flex their mind-muscle against their friends. All our boys have shown a dedication and passion for chess, and we only hope that their interests continue in the years to come. Join The Ridge Senior Chess Club
At The Ridge School, chess forms part of our extra-mural clubs that take place in the afternoons and is offered as an option to senior boys. Boys from Grades 4-7 participate in competitive chess, and they play inter-school fixtures.
